Staying in or rather near (no car) Ancona, Italy

1) Is Ancona and surroundings a tourist destination worth visiting in late April / early May? 2) Ideas for a charming B&B or family hotel in a nice part of town (or nearby) ... at a not excessive room rate. Thanks and Ciao from Peter
