Staying in Naples - Location Advice

Hello,

My husband and I are staying in Positano for five nights, then Naples one night with a early afternoon departure back to the states from the Naples airport. Any advice on where we should stay in Naples as first time visitors (and also to be able to get to the airport, if that is seen as any issue).

Thanks!
Michelle

The Alibus to Naples airport departs near the Piazza Municipio and Piazza Garibaldi/Central station; these stops are marked on the maps in Rick's Naples chapter. He also recommends a few hotels near each location.

Miche,

You might have a look at Hotel Chiaia, which is located in a nice area. Ask your hotel staff to arrange transportation to the airport when you check -in.

Naples has a fixed-rate taxi fare from any hotel to the airport. So if you can afford it, (and print out a copy of the tariff list to show the drive if needed!) the hotel location should cover your tourism plans and comfort level. We walked a very long way from the Palazzo Decumani to the Circumvesuviana (going TO Sorrento) because we're cheapskates! But we thought the taxi from the airport to the hotel was an entirely fair price.

I might add that our program (in the opposite direction from yours) depended on leaving our bags in the hotel baggage room upon checkout to complete our museum (and pizza) visits before heading to Sorrento. And in your situation, I would want a fancy enough hotel that I would feel comfortable having them order an early-morning (licensed, see tariff note above) taxi the night before.

Hi, Michelle.

You could stay anywhere in Napoli, the Chiaia area is very nice. Have the hotel reserve the taxi the night before. The airport is about 1/2 hour from the city.

EDIT: another option is to stay near the train station.
