We will be heading to Positano next April - 2 married couples. We are considering staying in Montepertuso for the quiet atmosphere and it seems to be less expensive. We understand there is a bus that takes people to and from Positano or we could take over 1,000 stairs (we are ok with that). We are curious if anyone has stayed here as a home base and what their experience was. Thanks in advance!
Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, probably you will likely pass through Positano several times a day, as it is the departure point for ferries and excursions along the coast. In my view, there is one practical, concrete piece of advice: before booking, ask the accommodation about the time of the last evening bus and the cost of a taxi from Positano up to Montepertuso at night. With those two figures in hand, you can decide for yourself if the savings are worth it.
Another factor to consider is the weather, April is typically a very unpredictable month. You might experience glorious weather or highly changeable conditions with frequent rain and in the latter case, those 1,000 steps could become problematic when wet.
Finally, keep in mind that bus and ferry schedules in April are reduced compared to the summer season, when services are stepped up.
Thank you for these considerations! I would not have thought about these possible issues.
I will add that I once stayed in Furore, also above the coast. We had a car, but if we had not, I would never have stayed there. It's far too inconvenient for sightseeing.
