We're thinking of getting accommodations in monasteries or convents while touring Italy. Have you experienced this, and would you recommend it?
check out alma domus in siena
I have and highly recommend those that Rick lists in his Italy books. Also, you can consult http://www.monasterystays.com/
I've not used the service, but have found it a good resource. Perhaps others have used it. I don't like paying a booking fee if I don't have to.
Hi
I'm planning to use www.monasterystays.com as they have good feedback from past customers on their website and I can't be bothered with the bother of communicating in a foreign language.
All the articles I've read suggest staying in a monastery is good value- no minibars but clean, simple accommodation- what more do you want?
On our first trip to Rome we stayed in a convent (don't remember name at moment) located a few blocks from the train station. Very nice. Very clean. It had a curfew which, as I recall was 11pm. We found it online and made reservation via email.
I loved it. and most al well priced but not all. I recom the one in Cortona (pking incl)and Orvieto. Skip the meals they are ess. bread and weak coffee.
