Staying in Levanto vs one of the 5 Villages in October

Considering Levanto based on reading and comments on here about busy-ness, crowds, prices, etc. Looks like it is an easy train ride to the villages and would provide sea view accommodations, good restaurants, etc. We will have 3 nights in this area. I have been searching for stays in Vernazza, Monterosso, and Manarola….there is availability but pricey for water views.

Opinions or lodging recommendations for this idea? Advantages and disadvantages?

Thank you!

Hi. I took the RS Village Italy tour in 2011. We stayed in Levanto, not in the 5 towns. It was early October. While many of our group elected to go hiking from town to town during our 2-day stay, a few of us stayed put and lounged on the Levanto beach. I stayed behind. It was great. Largish beach, a few chair vendors still open, moms and kids arrived after school left out in the late afternoon. Very relaxing. Train connections seemed to be good from what others in the group reported.

Our hotel was about two blocks off the beach. I had a small balcony. There were restaurants and small shops in the area. Sadly, I do not remember the name. You may want to use the Search function at the top of this website to research if others have mentioned good Levanto hotels. For me, staying here was a fine choice.
