Hi all,
I booked a hotel that is in near the very outer part of Centro Storico, just inside the ring road. It looks like there's a park around the corner. the street address is Vicolo del Falcone, 6 8. Is this location central enough to exploring the centro storico? I'm a good walker, and an a New Yorker, very comfortable in unknown cities. I've got a bit of Italian from prior trips. Otherwise, I'd be interested in knowing funky neighborhoods to look for an apartment rental in. Or funky neighborhoods to check out.
In Bologna I stayed at the Albrego Centrale - almost next to the main square in town. I took the city bus from the train station and was able to get off at the corner and walk 1/2 block. It is a great place and I really recommend it. I am also a walker and I walked all over Bologna - a lot to see and if you have a chance to climb to the top of the tall towers the views are amazing. address is:
Via Della Zecca 2, Piazza Maggiore, 40121 Bologna
According to Google Maps, that address is about 1km walking distance from Piazza Maggiore the main square. I like staying really central so I"d say it's a bit far for my tastes but 1km is hardly far. One thing to note, though, is that it's opposite direction from the train station so it's not convenient walking distance to there IMO. So if you are considering daytrips via train to the rest of the region (Parma, Modena, Ferrara, etc), you might want to take that into consideration. Honestly, most of what I found to see and do in Bologna is centered in the area fairly immediate to the main center and it's a compact, convenient area to wander. I stayed at the Hotel Paradise, which I know has a separate building that contains apartments they rent, and I quite liked it. It was very reasonable and breakfast was good. Enjoy Bologna and do eat well!
