I am going to italy for the first time, we are staying in rome and wanted to do a over night to naples and see pompeii and come back the next day, can you suggest a nice $$$ price hotel?

Have you considered staying overnight in the town of Pompeii? It is close to the ruins and a cute quiet town. We loved sitting at a cafe on the town square right across from the cathedral. Check the website for Hotel Amleto in Pompeii. The service before and during the stay was great.

I concur with the poster below. I'm a very experienced traveler who has been to Italy many times. Naples is one of the very few places I couldn't wait to leave. If your only purpose is to get to Pompei, I say stay overnight there. The lodgings are cheaper;it's safer; and you will be there bright and early in the morning, an important consideration if the weather is hot.
