Stay/see near Tibertina station?

We'll be in Rome for a couple of days in September before a trip to Sienna. Looks like the easy way to Sienna is a bus from the Tibertina station, so I'm wondering what that area is like. Most of Rick's book/recommendations seem oriented towards staying with reference to the Termini station. We have stayed near there before, and had a lovely time exploring the Coliseum, Forum, that area, over to the Vatican, etc. Ready to see some different corners of the area for this time. Will likely arrive mid-afternoon, then have two full days to explore before needing to head to Sienna.

Anyone with ideas/experience?

I don't think the area around Tiburtina station has much to see, it's a bit outside the center- maybe even outside the Aurelian walls. I am not exactly sure but it might be a bit of a rough area. Hopefully Roberto can be more specific. I don't think it's an area I'd want to stay.
If you want to check out new neighborhoods consider Trastevere, Prati, Monti, Testaccio,
The Centro Storico is also a great place to stay as you are dead center Rome there- anywhere near the Pantheon is good.

I wouldn't be concerned about being close to the bus station as you can take a taxi- which are pretty inexpensive in Rome
I do think you are right- the easier way to Siena is by Flixbus.
The train would mean to Florence first for transfer to bus or train to Siena.

Thank you, @ChristineH. What you say makes sense. I appreciate your thoughts on other neighborhoods - I am currently looking at some places near the Pantheon.

Piazza Bologna is reasonably close to Tiburtina station with shops and restaurants and has a metro station if you want a change of scenery.
