Stay one night in Naples or head directly to Venafro?

My Mom and I will be arriving in Naples around 8:30 am and we are undecided on whether we should stay one night or go directly to Venafro - my paternal grandparents hometown. if we stay in Naples we would leave early the next day to head to Venafro so we essentially would have two full days in Venafro before our next destination.

Reasons for staying in Naples overnight: Veiled Christ (I know with jet lag it is not wise to be indoors but this would interest my Mom), pizza, Sfogliatella, and just walking around a bit (my Nonna left Italy via Naples so there is also that connection). Again I know seeing a museum is not wise so not sure if we should even attempt the Archeological Museum or not.

Thank you

The veiled christ is incredible!!! I encourage u to see it if u think u will not return to Naples.
To me it surpasses Villa Borghese marbles and Berninis.

Naples is definitely worth a day. The chapel with the veiled Christ is rather small, so you won't be inside for very long. On the other hand, the Archeological Museum is large and you'll do a lot of walking inside. See how you feel that day and visit if you're up to it. There's no need to decide in advance, but it's great and so I'd pencil it in as a definite maybe. For me staying active is the key to adjusting, and whether that's outside or inside is less important.

Thank you JS and Frank for your feedback. As going back to Italy is up in the air after this trip I think I will go ahead and stay in Naples for the one night. My Mom will really love to see the Veiled Christ so I will take some time the day of arrival to see it and then we will just play the rest by ear depending on how we feel after the flight. Now to determine where we should eat some pizza and Sfogliatella ;)

You won’t regret a day in Naples! Don’t pass up the Archeological museum either. It’s actually not all that intense. If you just see the Farnese sculptures and the Pompeii rooms then it is pretty quick. Capella San Servo is actually very small, you’ll only be in there a couple minutes.

For pastries, Gran Caffe Gambrinus is a classic Neopolitan place. I found you really can’t go wrong with pastries in this area, it’s just one of those things that everybody does REALLY well.

I'm going to Naples this spring. Thanks for the "Veiled Christ" suggestion. I don't recall reading about it in the guide
books.
