Stay in Sorrento or Amalfi Coast

Traveling to Southern Italy in November for the month going first to the Amalfi Coast-where do I stay?

Flying into Naples, arriving 630pm so staying the night. Next day have reservations in Sorrento for 4 nights before heading the Amalfi coast to Salerno to get the train down to Maratea. In Sorrento was heading out on day trips to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Atrani, Vietri, and maybe Capri. Have been to Capri many years ago and verified the Blue Grotto tours do not run in November. Could still go to Capri from Sorrento but not a priority.

If I skip Capri to focus on the Amalfi coast, staying in Sorrento and day tripping to the Amalfi coast every day seems a waste of time and I should stay in Praiano, Minori, Maoria and day trip the coast from any of these towns and tour Sorrento for the day after departing Naples and on my way to the Amalfi coast town.

S, F, 70+, solo bus/train traveler so just read Minori is somewhat flatter than the rest. I usually rent apartments so what town is recommended, should I just stay in Sorrento and day trip out, any apt recommendations in the Amalfi coast town? In leaving the Amalfi coast by bus I don't mind retraveling the coast to get to Salerno for the train to Maratea.

Thank you.

If your desire is to see the Amalfi Coast, ABSOLUTELY stay there. You would get tired of the bus around the peninsula EVERY DAY. Hopefully buses are less crowded in November. I would want to stay in Amalfi or Atrani (so I could walk to Amalfi) to ensure it was easiest to get on a bus as that is where they start. But there are plenty of buses that go through Minori, it just means that sometimes you might have to take two buses to get to Amalfi to then transfer to a spot beyond that route.

I was going to suggest the same as Katherine that if your priority is the Amalfi Coast, then I would consider finding a location there due to transportation challenges. We spent 2 weeks in Sorrento in April 2022 with no regrets because our priority was Pompeii and the other Vesuvius explosion sites. We made 2 day trips to the Amalfi Coast and that was enough for us. By far we enjoyed our day trip to Capri more. It had scenery just as spectacular and was easier to get to, which gave us a full day of exploring instead of wasting time on ferries, buses and cars.

I also recommend staying in Amalfi because it’s the easiest town to get transportation from.

Can move your AC stay up a few days into October? That would be great as the ferries would be still be running.

Took your advice and changed my apt to Amalfi and in plotting my day trips works out sooooo much better. Thanks.
