stay in Ravello or Amalfi

It looks like Ravello is not that far from Amalfi. Which is better to stay in for a few days. would probably just do a tour of amalfi coast one day and just relax and enjoy the town and pool otherbteomdays. Thoughts?

Atrani is just downhill from Ravello and is directly on the water. While Atrani is much quieter than the town of Amalfi— Atrani’s next door neighbor— by walking a quarter mlle you have access to Amalfi’s boat and bus connections throughout the Amalfi Coast. Large apartments near Atrani’s beach run about €130 and up.

I loved Ravello, walking through the gardens and relaxing with the views! But, we stayed in Amalfi for three nights, and I would recommend staying there instead of Ravello since it has more restaurant options and is at the water.

It’s an easy bus ride up to Ravello, or an easy ferry to either Salerno or Positano.

About 15 years ago a colleague visited Ravello and bought a round of drinks, three martinis. It set him back $75 and that did not include a tip. If you sleep in Ravello expect to pay high prices that gets old fast.

Ravello is up a hill and is lovely but it does not have good transportation to any where else. Amalfi is a transportation hub as well as a charming town which which why we stayed there.

We took a very crowded bus up and walked back down to Amalfi. We walked through Atrani which someone mentioned.

I would stay in Amalfi or Atrani.

If your intent is to mostly stay in one spot then I think Ravello would be a nice choice. It’s pretty quiet during the day compared to the big towns, and at night I’m sure it’s very quiet. Getting up and down to Amalfi to explore the coast for a day would be easy enough, and there’s always a taxi in a pinch.

Amalfi has much, much more going on. It’s the transport hub, so if you had more interest in exploring/day tripping I’d stay there. Also, there are tons of restaurants, bars, nightlife, etc. I can’t say I cared for the town much myself.

Atrani is an interesting compromise. I loved it, but could see it not appealing to everyone. It has a free sandy beach, and feels very local. It’s a quick, though somewhat nervy walk along the coast road to Amalfi, so you have good access to everything Amalfi has to offer without staying there. Atrani is a bit scruffy in a good way, while I’d characterize Ravello as upscale and classy.
