We have a flight out of Naples on a Thursday in April at 12:30pm. Trying to decide if I can add another night to itinerary in Ravello or stay the last night in naples. We’d hire a private driver/car to get us there. What time is rush hour traffic usually going into naples on weekday? Would leaving say by 7:30 am for non international flight give enough wiggle room?
I am inclined to think that is safe. But I have only slept in Sorrento, not in Ravello. Ravello has plenty of "luxury" beds, so I'd be sure to book a reputable car service from someplace nearby, not an "internet special" from Salerno or something. You want someone who knows all the road options to the airport, of course.
Personally , I would not risk it. Is the stress level worth one extra night in Ravello? All you need is one accident on the roadway that closes it down and you’ve missed your flight.
Though it's only an hour drive from Ravello to Naples, I concur with Philip. Too risky. Having spent many memorable days in Ravello, I can understand why you'd like to extend your time there, but it's not worth having something happen that interferes with your flight. Naples is an exciting city with much to offer. Traffic is horrible there though.
You need to be at the airport at 11am or shortly thereafter, so if you can secure a private driver picking you up at around 9-9:30am you will have plenty of time.
Last June we hired a driver to take us from Sorrento to Naples to catch a train. We had to be in Chiusi by noon to pick up a rental car because they closed at noon. Our driver didn't show! It was a mess trying to get a new driver and change train tickets and still get to Chuisi by noon. So based on our awful experience, my advice would be DON'T RISK IT! Plane flights don't have as many options in their schedules. Find a cool place to stay in Naples and enjoy the evening there. Then have a leisurely morning to get to the airport.
Thank you for all your feedback. Looks like the we won’t risk it then and stay in Naples.
