In the middle of August, We will take train from Florence to Naples in the noon or afternoon for one night stay and go to Pompeii next day early morning. After visiting Pompeii we will be heading to Sorrento for two nights. I heard Naples train station area in not a very safe area, so I am looking for a better place to stay a night and easier to take a public transportation to the train station next day morning. Is Dante area a good?
Why not visit Pompeii from Sorrento?
We always stay at the same AirBnB, about a quarter mile from the Mergellina Line 2 metro station. It's such a nice area - close to the waterfront, restaurants, and shopping - and is just an easy ride back to the main train station via the metro.
I agree, if you're staying in Naples to see Pompeii go all the way through to Sorrento and add a night there instead. You can easily visit Pompeii from Sorrento during the extra day instead. It's 10 minutes further from Sorrento than Naples on the train but that's all you'll lose.
It doesn't sound like you want to stay in Naples very much so don't.
Have a great trip,

The best reason to stay in Naples is to go to the Archeological Museum that has all the artifacts removed from Pompeii. If you can fit that into your day in Naples that would make it worthwhile.
