Stay in Canareggio?

I am looking at an airbnb apartment in Canareggio. Has anyone stayed in this neighborhood? Thoughts?
Thanks.

Cannaregio is a big and varied neighborhood. Many prefer being closer to San Marco and can get turned off by the touristy Lista di Spagna by the train station. But it is more of an actual neighborhood in many places and has some off the beaten path bars and restaurants. Best suggestion is to look up the address and take virtual stroll on Google Street Views and see what you think.

We have stayed at a hotel there twice and like the neighborhood a lot. It is easy to walk to St Mark's and thats the point of being in Venice!

Have a great trip!

Years ago we found the Hotel Abbazia, located near the rail station on a quiet calle (alley) in Canereggio and have stayed there many times since. The place is a remodeled Carmelite Monastery and the staff is terrific, especially Matteo and Mirko.

We do not like the idea of humping luggage on the vaparetto and then up and down the steps on the many bridges. Very few bridges are like ramps because mostl have steps. A few bridges do have metal wedges on the bridges to act as a ramp, but these are few and far between.

A 20 minute walk will bring you to Piazza San Marco or you can take the vaparetto. If you wander a few streets off of the main areas you will experience a very different Venice, especially at night.

Buon viaggio,

I stayed in Cannaregio three years ago in an apartment on Fondamenta Della Sensa. It was lovely and we really enjoyed the area. It was very quiet and I loved being in an area with actual Venetians that live there. I'm in Venice for my fourth time currently and staying in Dorsoduro. I just arrived yesterday but it seems busier than Cannaregio - but I think I'm going to like it also.
It takes longer from Cannaregio to Piazza San Marco and Rialto, but both these areas are best seen very early or late due to the crowds.
If you like the apartment in Cannaregio, I say go for it.
