Stay in Atrani while visiting Amalfi Coast?

Has anyone stayed in Atrani while visiting Amalfi Coast? I found it's lower cost than staying in Sorrento, and walking to amalfi coast only takes 10 minutes. Family of four (kids are 11 and 9) visiting Amalfi Coast (Positano, Capri, Pompeii) area in July for five nights. Looking for any advice, pros and cons.
TIA!

Atrani is ON the Amalfi coast, 10 min walk to Amalfi (town).
You would have to walk to Amalfi (town) for ferry or bus. Bus can be very very crowded especially in July so whether you all get on the bus or get seats is iffy.

Pompeii is NOT on Amalfi coast- would take a bit of work to get to Pompeii from Atrani- not impossible just more difficult/longer.

Sorrento offers the BEST transportation.
Amalfi (town) works as well so since Atrani is just next door it's OK to stay there but just know what your transportation options will be.

We were in southern Italy with another couple in late October and stayed 3 nights in Sorrento, using that as a base for day trips to Pompeii, Naples and Capri, then we stayed 5 nights in a 2 bedroom VRBO rental home that was halfway between Atrani and Minori. We absolutely loved our home, with multiple terraces giving us beautiful sea views. And we loved this location for exploring the Amalfi Coast. We could walk to Minori (about 20 min) or to Atrani (about 15 minutes, then another 10 to get to Amalfi). From Amalfi we could ferry to Positano. From our rental home, we could also walk to Ravello, although that was about 1700 steps straight up. (Our friends did it and loved the hike, whereas my husband and I were happy to take the bus up). Walking is along a very winding, busy road. You have to walk on the seaside of the road and hug the shoulder, which is about 1 foot wide in most places. Cars, motorcycles and bikes are zooming past you. To take the bus, you must have a ticket in hand, so although there are bus stops along the road, they are mostly for letting people off. You can't wait at those stops to board unless you pre-bought a ticket. And if you are waiting but the bus is full, it will not stop. There are places in each town where you can buy bus tickets, and also in small tobacco shops between towns. Five nights on the Amalfi Coast was more than enough for us. We weren't trying to fit in trips to Naples, Pompeii or Capri because we'd already visited all three while staying in Sorrento. I'd say that if you had 3 nights there, you could do everything you wanted to do. If you have just 5 nights and are splitting it between Sorrento and Amalfi Coast, I'd do 3 in Sorrento and 2 on the Amalfi Coast.

We stayed in Amalfi and walked through Atrani. Amalfi is the transportation hub for Amalfi coast so Atrani is a very reasonable option.

Sorrento is not actually on the Amalfi coast. Pompeii is even further. In my mind, it is not practical to go from Atrani to Pompeii as a day trip. We went from Sorrento and then moved to the Amalfi coast.

In case you have any interest in a rental home on the Amalfi Coast, instead of a hotel room, I sent you a private message with a link to the home where we stayed.

Thank you all for the input! Seems Atrani is a good spot to stay except the trip to Pompeii will be a little pain. I will do some research and figure it out.

Relatives stayed in Atrani some years ago and were very happy with their choice. They mentioned lots of steps to the particular apartment they rented, but they knew the situation in advance. They took some sort of bus or van tour to Pompeii; they didn't need to travel across the peninsula to pick up the Circumvesuviana. I believe they had to leave Atrani to reach the pick-up point (I'd guess in Amalfi), but it would be worth checking on tour availability from the Amalfi Coast. The cost might be justified by the lower hassle quotient.

My sister and I are staying in Atrani in May. This is the part of our trips where I like to get an Airbnb so we can spread out a bit, relax, let our feet rest and do laundry. I wanted a centralized, walkable two-bedroom with an oceanview. I started looking in January, so there was decent availability. The one that called me was in Atrani. Although there will be a ton of steps, both bedrooms have ocean views, Atrani seems quaint and one can only hope the reviews are accurate. We plan to do ferries and buses. I haven't quite got to really planning the days on the coast. At this point in my life, I don't live by an ocean. I might just need to soak up the sea air and have a restorative time.

I was having problems figuring out the Pompeii logistics from Amalfi/Atrani. There just didn't seem a way to not make it a long, hot process that wouldn't take a day away from our time on the coast. So, I've booked a driver to pick us up as we check out of our Airbnb. They will drive us to Pompeii, wait with the luggage while we poke around and then drive us to a train station in Naples. It's not cheap but it checks a lot of boxes. It's probably comparable to taking a day-long van tour but gives us more control. For a family, it would be a good alternative.
