I was thinking of visiting St. Peter's at 7 am on a Wed, then heading over to the Vatican Museums for entry at 8:30 am. Is this timing doable? I didn't want to go to St. Peter's after visiting the Museums because I didn't want to be there during papal audience. Or is it better if I go the Vatican museums on Tues around 11 am and then go to St. Peter's after? Right now, this is the avaiIable ticketing options. know there will be crowds most of the time but if anyone of you could suggest which day might be better for less crowds...Thanks!
Hi gal,
Tuesday would be the day to visit. Security check is at entrance. After the ticketed entry to the Vatican Museums and after the Sistine Chapel visit, you can go directly to St. Peter's Basilica. Guards may be at the doors to size up bags.
St. Peter's is free to enter. If you decide to go to St. Peter's with out visiting Vatican, you will need to go through security outside. .
No large backpacks or bags or large umbrellas. They will need to be checked. Same goes for a visit to the Vatican Museums. No food is allowed, typically. Water bottles were okay as long as they were put in your bag.

The Basilica is not open to visitors during the Papal Address on Wednesdays.
Thanks for the information!
