St Peter's Rooftop Coffe Bar...Been there?

I read they have a coffe bar you can visit if you take the elevator up to the dome- Do they serve sandwiches? Is it very busy (we will be there the day after easter- my fear is that we may plan on having a bite to eat there and then find the cafe overcrowded- no place for us to eat before our 2pm museum reservation.

Thanks if you know anything-
Amy

Yes, there is a coffee bar. But we didn't go in so I don't know if they serve food. BUT, we had snacks in our backpacks and no one complained about them. We ate them at the base of one of the columns in St. Peters Square. There are lots of sandwich/pizza shops near St. Peters, expecially on the streets near the Vatican Museums.

Yep, there's a coffee bar & gift shop on the roof, after the elevator, and before you start the "Climb of Death(tm)" ;-) We didn't eat there, but I am fairly certain they had sandwiches and possibly gelato and snacks as well, but I don't recall there was really any place to sit down. I'm also guessing that it is probably seriously overpriced.

I would do as the other poster did, and carry some food in my bag. Alternatively, since it sounds like you will be doing St. Peter's prior to the Vatican, you will have to walk out of the Piazza and around the walls to the Museum entrance (I think about a 10 minute walk). There are cafes and street cart type vendors along the way, as well as across the stret from the piazza--though again, that will likely be pricy.
