Planning to visit the Vatican in a couple of weeks. Approximately how much time does it take to do the dome? The website says to give it 2.5 hours but indicates that may also include your time wandering around the Basilica.
Does this tour include the Sistine Chapel? There are many connecting hallways with statuary, etc. We made a game of "count the Oak Leaves" which decorate the statues. 2.5 hrs will go by fast. You will remember this vividly for the rest of your lives!
If you are looking at, or have bought, the reserved time tickets for the Dome climb (Hopefully from the official site https://www.basilicasanpietro.va/en/products ) then yeah, 2.5 hours is a decent estimate that includes time in the Basilica, maybe 3 hours would be safer if the place has a serious interest to you.
The reserved time tickets for the dome climb do include the elevator to the roof, plus entrance to the Basilica with an audioguide. They recommend 90 minutes for the Basilica, leaving I suppose an hour for the climb, like I said, maybe 3 total is a safer bet, especially if you want to visit the crypt.
The Sistine chapel is not included with this ticket, that would require a ticket for the museum.
