st peter's before vatican museum

Hi,

I am devoting a day to vatican museum and st.peters. I am thinking about visiting St Peters in the morning and vatican museum in the afternoon, hoping that there would be fewer people at the museum in the afternoon?

Most itinerary will visit the museum before St. peters, I think that's because of the shortcut? However, I will be renting an audio tour, so I guess the shortcut from the sistine chapel to st.Peters is a moot point for me.

Is there any other advantages of visiting the Museum before St. Peters?

Thanks

The museums will be crowded no matter what time you visit them. There are upside and downsides to visiting it in the afternoon. The upside is most of the galleries closer to the front of the museums will have less people in them. The downside is that the really popular galleries will be packed with people. You'll also likely encounter a lineup in the galleries leading to the chapel.

If you visit the basilica when it opens at 7am you won't find any line and will have the place mostly to yourself.

Wendy, that "shortcut" is reserved for guided tours so it wouldn't be an advantage for you anyway.
