Rick's book says to use the vaticanstate.va website to book a time and spot. That web site will send you to the museivaticani.va website, which does not mention a St. Peter's ticket. All Vatican related.
I did find a website called https://www.basilicasanpietro.va that states it is the "official" site to book your visit to the basilica. Is this where I book s time for a St. Peter's visit plus dome climb reliably?? Thank You!! Scammers beware...it looks official.

Not sure why the Vatican State website does not have a link, but the site for the Basilica is new this year, I suspect partly to handle crowds anticipated for the Jubilee Year. Being able to get a reserved time ticket is also new this year (You could order tickets previously, and reserve audio guides, but not reserve a time.)

I just watched this video today from the Romewise channel that explains it pretty well. You may register for a timed spot in the security line.
