Hi all
Another St Peter’s dome climb question…..
On Wednesday, June 12th my daughter and her husband have been awarded tickets to receive a papal blessing for newlyweds. They will be sitting in the sposi novelli section which is reserved for the newlyweds. My husband and I received tickets to be in the general audience. We all have to arrive very early at St Peter’s to go through security prior to the 9:00am blessing. I am assuming, but don’t exactly know, when the blessing will be over but I think St Peter’s is closed on Wednesdays per RS book until around 13:00 (1pm). My family would like to do the dome climb sometime on that day. I have the following questions:
- will we have to stand back in the security line to go into St Peter’s basilica? (I’m assuming the papal blessing is held outdoors but I’m not sure - we have not received details on this event yet)
- Is it better to leave St Peter’s after the blessing and come back later in the day and hope to get into the dome climb. My understanding is that it closes at 6pm (and sometimes earlier if line is long) in the summer. What time should we come back to avoid long lines? (Do lines ever go down or is the dome climb always a long line?)
Thanks,
Maryanne
