Hi, Could someone please confirm that tickets to climb the Dome are available only on site and not in advance/online? Just wait in line, correct? Thanks.

I am not visiting Rome until early May but, I have a friend that lives there and yes, you buy dome tickets on site she says. I can't wait to go on my trip! Enjoy yours!

Yes, you buy them on sight. After you have cleared the line to get into the Basilica the line to purchase tickets to the dome is located to the right of the basilica doors (as you stand facing the entrance). You can choose to have an elevator which bypasses the first 320 steps. After that you "must" climb the rest of the way - about 500 steps in total.
