I have tickets for the vatican museum and sistine chapel. I thought i could access the Basilica after the Sistine Chapel but I read somewhere that exit is only for those who are part of a a guided tour which i did not get. Is that true? if yes, my plan b is to get to the basilica at 7am on May 30. Does anyone have an idea on the time in line at that time? Thanks
Yes that is true.
I was at St. Peter’s in March 2023. Lines were not bad at 7 am, but there were a handful of other people also wanting to get in early. From my pictures, it looks like we were through security by 7:12 am.
Thanks. Plan B it is then.
In answer to your first question, we had a guided Vatican tour (booked through the museum) on a Tuesday in April that began at 8 am, and we were not able to access St. Peters directly after the Sistine Chapel. The tour group (and it appeared everyone else) had to exit the Vatican Museum on the North end outside the walls, then walk around the block and reenter the walls by the square to get to the St. Peter's security line. It took us about an hour to get through security and into St. Peters.
