St Peter Basilica

I saw where someone made a comment that the Basilica would be closed for 3 weeks because of Congress meeting. Is this true? We will be traveling there October 13th thru 16th.

I think you may have been confused by a recent thread regarding some special papal services at the basilica on three Sundays during October. Two of them are for opening and closing of the Synod of Bishops, and one is a Canonization mass. All three of these services involve (free) tickets to attend, and visitors are not otherwise allowed inside. The dates are Sunday the 4th, 18th and 28th. I'm unsure if the church will be closed ALL day but your dates don't fall on any of these anyway.

As I see that tours of the museums/basilica still have openings during the week of the 12th and other days during the month, the church promises to be open during your time in Rome. Papal general audience in St Peter's Square is on Wed. the 14th (10:30, I believe?) so I'd avoid that morning unless you wish to participate.
