We will be arriving in rome on sunday afternoon. Plan to absorb sites a little, get settled, maybe do evening walk. we are also planning a day trip to pompeii. We are leaving rome on thursday morning. my question: better to see vatican monday, when other museums are closed and vatican is busy, (but we would do the tour and skip the line), or better to do day trip on monday, and do vatican tuesday . I don't know if this was asked before, but I couldn't find it in the FAQs.

If you can see the Vatican area on Tuesday it will be better. The museums are packed on Mondays so seeing it on Tuesday won't be as bad. You can do your day trip to Pompeii on Monday or Wednesday. Donna

I agree with Donna. Mondays at the Vatican museums are crowded. It isn't just the line to get in, it is all the galleries so filled with people that it is sometimes hard to move or see exhibits.

Thank you both for your advice. I guess I was hesitant to travel on sunday, and then travel on monday, but probably the lines and the crowds at the vatican outweigh the travel on monday. I was focusing on lines; but did not consider the crowd inside. I love this site; am learning so much. thanks again,
