St. Marks Basicilla skip the line tickets sold out and Doge’s Palace question

We waited too long to book our St. Marks Basicilla skip the line tickets and now they are sold out for the next 6-7 weeks. Any tips on the best strategy for visiting to minimize the wait time? We’ll be there on a Friday in September and only in Venice 1-1/2 days. We were planning to follow Rick’s recommended one very busy day plus an evening itinerary, https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/italy/venice-itinerary.

Also, is touring inside Doge’s Palace worth the admission cost and time? Trying to wrap up some last details on our plans.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I think you really just have to arrive early.....we didn't have tickets and waited only about 15 minutes at saint mark's. we didn't have advance ticket. this was easter week so there were crowds.

we did the VIP doges tour through walks or italy (it wasn't a bargain, but I think you can book it cheaper). We felt it was worthwhile and informative..... guide was excellent. it was our venice splurge.

we also "sort of" followed rick's one night/ busy day list. we took a vaporetto the evening we arrived and listened to his podcast.....it was a hit and cheap! great overview to get familiar with venice. the next day we visited st mark's, doges, and wandered his tour that included san zaccaria. we also went to the campanile opposite saint marks at the board's suggestion -- san Giorgio maggiore. take the vapporetto, no one was there -- great views and worth the trip. elevator is CASH only!

Which site and date are you using to check for tickets? I was using this site and finding some availability.

We are also heading to Venice this month and taking the Secret Itinerary Tour at the Doge. It sounds like a behind the scenes kind of tour with a guide and I'm very excited about it. You can find it here

I had read some good reviews about it.

^^This site is a third party reseller that is selling entrance tickets along with guided tour for 24.99 euros

The official site for St Mark's tickets is:
https://basilicasanmarco.skiperformance.com/en/store#/en/buy?skugroup_id=2524
Entrance tickets are just a few euros.
Nobody skips the security line.
Please be sure to have shoulders and knees covered- both men and women-they are very strict.
Check rules about purses/backpacks as well

Thank you for the helpful advice. I was using the official site and checked all the options for tickets in combo and alone. I checked again a bit ago and none are currently available for Sept 20. We’ll keep checking to see if things change/something frees up.
