St. Marks: 11:00 am or 12:15 pm tour?

I am buying my tickets but I know the lights are suppose to be on between 11:30 and 12:30 so the question is when would I get the best tour (viewing) experience. My concern is that if I do the 11 am tour the lights wont be on at the beginning of the tour (is this when they explain the mosaics?). Maybe, if I do the 12:15 tour I could get to the Basilica early and admire the mosaics on my own. Thanks.

I'm going to assume you mean St. Mark's in Venice but I'm not sure why you're worried about the lights being on. I've been at different times of day and have never noticed the lighting being different from one time to the next. I haven't taken the tour either but can't think of any reason why one time would be better than the other.

The mosaics are most definitely illuminated by spotlights during that short period and it quite impressive. Also impressive is visiting the museum upstairs during the illumination and looking over to the mosaics.
