Hi, Can anyone help with a question? ( I know it seems stupid)...the official site for Basilica tickets says temp suspended for updates for booking starting in July. It will be back up in June for bookings. I'm trying to book for late in June - so of course I can't because this website is not available. Should i abandon hope for this website having dates available in June when it becomes available and book with a tour group or other outside (audio guide group)? Just asking for opinions, since Ive never seen this before. TIA!
What site are you seeing this info from?
When I access
https://basilicasanmarco.skiperformance.com/en/store#/en
I see tickets available from June 24 on, but nothing about online sales being suspended.
I'm not seeing that info either. Was just able to do a dummy booking for a random late-June date...although tickets appear to be going fast, and time slots showing as open may not be available depending on how many tickets you need.
I don't see any booking possible in July When I'll be there. Do we know why or when that will be available to book online?
If you would like to merely see the inside of the Basilica and then also go to the upper floor (for the lovely view over St. Mark's Square (or whatever it is called), and also see the horse statues and look down into the Basilica from above, you can merely check the Basilica's mass schedule and go in at that time....no ticket needed; however, you will need to pay some nominal amount to go to the upstairs area (I think it was E5 or something like that when we visited Venice several years ago). For scheduled masses, you will see people lining up outside (I think it was sort of to the left the year we went...join the line with no explanation whatsoever needed) and proceed inside when everyone else does.
For Sunday masses, the Basilica is all lighted up...not sure if the entire Basilica is lighted entirely for the weekday masses. But, when we were there, the lights were turned off pretty quickly after the Sunday mass was finished (makes sense).
Not Catholic...no problem, just file in with everyone else and do that everyone else does (sit, stand, kneel). Or you could arrive after the mass has started and quietly just sit or stand in the back, then quickly look around after mass is over.......then very politely after mass, ask one of the ushers if you may go upstairs (of course, buying a ticket for that part).
But, if you are looking for a guided visit of the Basilica with commentary about its history, etc., that is another story..................
Of course, there is a ticket office and you can line up to get tickets the day of. No telling
how long the line will be, or the timing at which you can actually enter.
We will be there next weekend, and Sunday is the only full day we have. I wanted to see the Basilica, how long is the mass? We might try and do the suggestion of going to mass and then try and go upstairs.
