The official website basilicasanmarco.it can't be reached and is not secure. Seems like the only options to avoid standing in line for tickets are with guided tours purchased online. These tours seem to have limited time durations, meaning you need to leave after a certain time limit. What is a recommended time duration to avoid feeling rushed? (higher $ = longer duration) If that's the case, once the basic tour time limit is met, can you extend your stay by buying tickets inside for the Altar and Museum?

I’m sorry to hear that you are having issues with the site. Oddly enough, I was able to buy tickets just yesterday for the basilica and bell tower for mid December. I’d recommend trying a different device and to make an account first. I swear checkout goes smoother when you have an account. Lol
Good luck!
For reasons I really cannot fathom, some Italian sightseeing websites only function during the hours the sight is open. The ticket-purchase website is usually available 24 hours a day, so try the direct link Christine has given you.
It may also work to change devices and/or browsers, as Joseph suggested.
Sometimes Firefox struggles and I switch to Chrome. Also, I have an AMEX. VISA and MasterCard, so if there's an issue I switch card types. That said, my first choice when ordering tickets and similar is to use Chase Visa for the insurance against illness benefit.
I was just able to get on the official website via the link Christine provided. Scroll to the bottom of the home page for the ticket options. I purchased the Basilica plus museum which gets you up to the top level so you can go out by the horses for the view. There is no time limit, we were in the basilica for quite a while. We used the Rick Steves guidebook for information as we wandered the church.
OP, when you say the website is not secure, what do you mean and how do you know
this (seeing as you can't access it).
If you are concerned about your information being compromised, most browser traffic
is encrypted these days. If that doesn't put your mind at rest, use a VPN. I would
avoid trying to make the transaction over a wi-fi connection.
If you are concerned about the Basilica servers getting hacked, well, there's not much
you can do about that.
Thank you all...link Christine provided worked.
The link provided in Rick's book basilicasanmarco.it showed both Not secure and "This site can't be reached"
If you purchase the ticket that includes the museum, It’s a good idea to either print out your tickets (with the barcode) or save them as screenshots in photos (or both lol). You will have to show the tickets again for the museum area, and there is absolutely no WiFi inside the Basilica to access tickets saved as emails.
