I've visited the website where you can book a reserved time for the Basilica for one euro. Is this necessary? We will be carrying a day pack, and I know that we will have to check it. Rick indicates that checking a bag will enable us to bypass the line anyway. Is it worth it to book a reserved time anyway?
Thanks! 11 days to go!!!!
When we went most recently (2008), we did the check your bag trick and went right to the head of the line without a reservation. I've actually never heard of making a reservation for St. Mark's. Be sure to read carefully where that bag check is, since it's in a completely separate building.
No need for reservations, simply go to the old church around the corner(read ricks book for directions) and you will go to the front of the line. Enjoy, Jeff
If you stand in front of St. Marks, where the entry line is, move to your left until you're at the corner of the square with a little street in front of you. Walk to the first church on the left side, and that's the bag check.
I was just there a little over a week ago. I checked my daypack at the off sight location and walked right in even though there was a long line. However, there is one thing that Rick doesn't warn you about. If you are planning to listen to Rick's audio tour on your MP3 player I know from personal experience that you need to take your MP3 player out of your pack before checking it. It is a little late to remember as you're walking in the door.
