SSSSSShould we stay in Riva del Garda

Hi again all Readers of this forum,

I am still working on my trip to Italy for next May. I have some questions about plans. We are going to Riva del Garda. I want to spend a few days around the lake but we also want to go to the Dolomites and visit Bolzano and Merano on the way. Roverto and Trent are in the area too and I would like to see them if possible. Should I book an apartment in Riva for a whole week so as to cut down on packing and unpacking or should I stay three nights in Riva and 1 night in each of the other places I mentioned as they are all near the A22? The distances don't look far and rome2rio shows short travel times ( under 3 hrs.)

Also does anyone know about the Trentino Travel Card and exactly what places one can use it for? We will have a car but as parking can be a problem I would like to use the public transportation as much as possible. All suggestions welcomed.

We stayed a couple of nights in Riva after a week in the Dolomites. Honestly, it was the least favorite of many Italian towns I have stayed in. Cant quite put my finger on it, but everything seemed too much geared towards the mass tourist trade (I know, silly reason :-). Restaurants advertising English Bangers and Mash or German Schnitzel (at least the region was Austrian, though) abounded to cater to the large number of tourists from these countries. In contrast, we loved Malcesine and Limone and would not hesitate to go back to either of these towns.

We also found Riva to be a longer than anticipated diversion from the main A22. Do not even think of driving this route on the weekend. Aarrgghhh.

I would recommend spending 2-3 days on the lake, one day in Bolzano (big city but we loved the old town) and another few days near the Alpe di Siusi.
