spring trip to Venice,Padua & Milan

HI hope everyone is well!
I am planning a spring trip with my husband (who has never traveled out of the US) and my mom, who is in her 70s.
this is my 1st time visiting this part of Italy. I will be adding a day trip to Padua before venturing off to Milan. I am curious about taking them to Genoa, Turin or Bologna for the last part of the trip. Not sure which cities have more to do with them. We will departing Italy and back to US from the last city. Any suggestions??

Thank you :)

Hello- welomce!

How many nights wil you have in Italy?
Where are you flying from?

Look at flights IN to Venice and OUT of Milan. (It's easier to fly in to Venice than out of)
You might find the best prices are RT Milan- you can work with that as well.

Assuming you plan to travel by train?

Bologna is between Venice and Milan so if you choose there- that will be the middle of your trip.
Venice > 1.5 hr Bologna > 1 hr Milan is a simple train plan, quick too- so you are not spending too much time in transit.

Does everybody have their passports?

10 days that's including 2 travel to Italy and back home. As of right now April 12-22 2025
no restrictions for us but no hiking type of walks for my mom. Not sure where to fly into and fly back home from just yet. also not sure of how many days in each city we should do.

Thank you :)

10 nights- I'd stick to 3 locations. Each location change eats up half a day.

(actually is it really 10 NIGHTS? do you arrive in Italy on the am of 4/12?)

Easter is April 20- just so you are aware of that.
Palm Sunday is 4/13- that wil be a busy day in towns.
Some restaurants will be closed on Easter, reservations will be a must.

How many nights do you think you'll want in Milan? What are your must dos there? I'd say 2 minimum to see Last Supper and Duomo (if those are on your list) Last Supper tix go fast so you will have to stay on top of that

Bologna is flat and what is nice is the porticoes- if it's raining or just too hot you can at least explore under cover. It's the foodie capital 3 or 4 nights- allows for a day trip to see the mosaics in Ravenna

Travel to Genoa from Venice will take 6-7 hours with change in Milan. IMO that's too far to travel on a short tip.
Travel to Turin from Venice is about 3.5 hours with change in Milan.

Assuming your flight is into Venice, out of Milan

Venice- 4 nights- that allows for a day trip to Padova
Train to Bologna
Bologna 4 nights- day trip to Ravenna
Train to Milan
Milan 2 nights- this will be Easter weekend
