Spring Train Schedules

At what point will the train schedules for March/April load. Looking at 1st 2 1/2 weeks in April, no times showing as yet.

Also does anyone have a good idea how far it is from the train station in Chiusi to the Europcar location. Walkable or need a taxi?

After 4 1/2 days in Rome we are transitioning to Orvieta, debating whether to do the train and pick up vehicle in Chiusi or just renting in Rome and driving. Eventually will be turning the car in at Verona train station.

Staying at the Hotel Smeraldo in Rome, looks like closest vehicle pickup is near the Vatican.

Interesting that the only car rental on AutoEurope at this time appears to be Europcar.

Normally, the regionale train schedules come out right at the schedule change date, which is December 12 this year. Freccia trains will show up well before that date.

Also does anyone have a good idea how far it is from the train station in Chiusi to the Europcar location.

Look on google maps. Appears to be about 1/2 mile.

Somebody probably knows exactly, but schedules are released about 3 months ahead. However, other than seasonal adjustments for volume, you can get about all the information you need by inputting a date and time about 2-3 weeks out for the same day of the week you plan on traveling. (departure times, number of trains, regional or fast, etc.). No need to buy tickets until a month or so ahead for fast trains, up to the day of departure for regional trains. Download the Trenitalia app as well, handy if you will have a smartphone in Italy.

Europcar looks to be a 10 minute walk from the station in Chuisi.

You will not need a car in Rome, or anywhere near it, I would just plan on picking up a car in Chuisi.

Check the car rental price for both options
We are traveling April into May and have a similar plan
Getting car in Florence and dropping Chiusi then on to Orvieto then Rome
The rate to keep the car 2 more days and drop in Rome is the same
Also check the hours at Europcar
They close at 12 or 12:30 and are not open Sunday
They may not have an automatic there ( if you need)

We’ll probably just keep our car til Rome, we have free parking at our Orvieto hotel

Pricing is essentially the same whether auto is picked up in Roma or Chiusi. Have no intention of using/having vehicle in Rome, just a question as to best utilization of time leaving for next stop. Hotel-taxi-train-walk-auto in Chiusi vs auto pick-up in Rome and drive to Orvieta. We will be driving about in Umbria (Orvieta, Civita & Assi) and then on to Bologna (Ravenna, San Marino) eventually turning car in at Varenna and training to Milan.

Other than getting out of Rome (been there - done that) probably more efficacious to pick up vehicle in Rome. Very well of the issues driving at all (don't) in any large European city. 4th trip to Italy over the years but returning to Rome after 21 years again!
