Is there much of difference traveling to Italy In mid-April versus mid- May weather wise and crowds- wise?
Of course. Thinking about Milan, to Padua over 3 days total then for majority of trip south to Florence, Voltera , ending in Rome.
My two previous trips many years ago to Italy were in mid - late October. Is that usually a more preferable time to go in terms of weather?
Thank you for your comments.
Thank you for the comments History Traveller.
Realize the shoulder season vanishing. Reconsidering shift to last week in Oct. thru mid- November. So looking forward to a return to Italy asap. Hope time will pass quickly as it usually does.
Continued travels.
There's an easy explanation: Rome-Florence-Venice is the traditional tourist axis, especially for first time visitors. Milan is a working city that doesn't rely on tourist traffic; it's got enough of its own stuff to do. Sure, the Duomo and the Last Supper are draws, but otherwise it's non touristy. If you want to go during what was the shoulder season, visit cities that arguable are more Italian: Bologna, Parma, Perugia, Torino, Padova, Mantova, Matera. Or drive around Umbria, Abruzzo, Le Marche, Puglia and so on. Maybe fewer selfie opportunities but more of an opportunity to live like Italians do–without having to go to work!
Enjoy your trip.
