Spoleto Italy

We are booked into an agritourismo for 2 weeks in Oct. Is there enough to see and do for that time or should we do a week somewhere else? We will have a car so can do day trips. Thank you.

Hi Pippa. I live in Portland for 25 years before coming to Rome.

I like to settle in one place for 4 or more nights and not rush, but 2 weeks is a long time in one place. It depends on what you like to do. Spoleto is in the heart of Umbrian wine country, there's great hiking, lots of cute small towns. I used this blog about Umbria to plan some of our activities in and near Spello 3 years ago. You might find some inspiration there, too.

Have you seen a lot of Italy? So much that you would spend two weeks in one small town? You could go to Puglia or the Amalfi Coast for a second week if you've seen all the usual spots.

Two weeks is a lot in any one place, especially when Italy's regions offer so much variety. There's a limit of how far you can easily day-trip; imagine a circle that delineates how far you can reach in under 2 hours travel time each way. I would find a second home base with a completely different circle, or plan some overnights in the historic cities, if you have not yet seen them. For an idea of the fastest way to visit, see Rick's Italy itinerary priorities.
