We will be in Spoleto for one week this summer. We are planning to use it as a base to do some day trips. We wiil have a car and will be with children ages 8 and 9. How many days and what to see in Spoleto
Recommended day trips? We will also have three more free days after Spoleti and before three days in Rome. Ideas on what to do with this time? Thanks!

Lucky family! Your will be close to many interesting towns in Umbria. Just two ideas: Your children will love walking up the bridge to to the tiny village of Civita Bagnoregio. Then drive to Orvieto for a full day with many sites. Don't miss the tour of Orvieto's underground.

Both Orvieto and Assisi would be wonderful choices. They're best experience as overnighters if not at least two nights each. If you're interested, here are some photos and a few short video clips of our trip to Assisi in May 2008 and Orvieto in May 2011.

i have stayed in Spoletto 3 different times since it is a good location to visit many of the other small towns. I could only use the train service but visted: Todi, Perugia and the small town of Spello. be sure to stop in and visit the artist on the main street into town, lovely woman i see on each trip. There are many more towns to visit but the train did not stop
