Splurge meal in Venice

We will be celebrating our last night of our 40th anniversary Italy trip in Venice. I have heard the jokes that you don't go to Venice for the food, but I know there has to be some nice upscale "splurge" restaurant that we could find with wonderful food and atmosphere.

Does anyone have any ideas?

We enjoyed dinner at Harry' Bar. Very good food and a belini for an anniversary drink. Need a reservation and as I remember is wasn't inexpensive. It is an historical place too.

One of the restaurants at Hotel Cipriani on Giudecca. And after dinner (or perhaps before) have a sit down drink at one of the places at San Marco while the orchestra is playing. Maybe even do a little dancing. It's a bit pricy, but it's something everyone should do at least once in their life if not more. Everyone needs a little romance in their soul -- especially on an anniversary -- no matter what the cost.

When I had a Bellini and small meal in the bar section of Harry's Bar in 1994, which I enjoyed, the couple next to me (who could better afford it) said they never missed dining at Al Covo when they visited Venice. I have not managed to follow up on their recommendation. Al Covo actually puts prices online. Harry's prices are higher.

One of our favorites in Venice is Anica Stellato, out on a quiet canal in the Cannaregio. If it's a nice night, if you like, you may sit outside. Not the high prices of the other places mentioned, but to me, a much more wonderful experience and atmosphere (and I've been to Al Covo and Harry's Bar). If you want something more high-end, get a reservation at the tine Alle Testiere, also a wonderful experience, and the owner is simply delightful (as is the food).
