Hello, we are wanting to go to Wengen then to Domodossola Italy and have tickets to the last supper in Milan so that would be a day trip. The Malpensa airport is closest airport to Domodossola. Would we be better off staying in Milan vs Domodossola? We want to be in city center if we stay in Milan but its farther from the Malpensa airport and not sure if fights are availablein the closer airport of linate and I think its more money for airline tickets?? Any help is appreciated!!

Linate is closer to Milan but definitely not closer to Domodossola-it’s on the eastern side if Milan
Most flights from Linate are are intra Europe
I doubt you’ll find a good flight out of there to USA
Domodossola would be too far from Malpensa for me to feel comfortable getting to Malpensa that same day, especially a flight before noon
Just too risky
I believe it’s a train then a bus -takes about 2 hours? Depends on the schedules
I wouldn’t even consider Milan a day trip from Domodossola
Getting to MXP from Milan is very simple and dependable
I’d stay in Milan night before flight

Is there a reason you are staying in Domodossola?
You might consider staying in Stresa on Lake Maggiore instead?
Seems like there’d be more to do/see there and it is actually closer to MXP than Milan is
Milan as a day trip from a Stresa is easy and very doable
There is a direct airport bus from Stresa to MXP

We have tickets to the last supper is why milan. It was an afterthought to domodossola. Chose domodossola because it was the closest italian town to switzerland soI got tickets to the last super Not thinking about the travel. How far is stresa & the other town you mentioned to Milans last supper?

What time your flight from Milan departs and where it goes are important details, in determining where you might want to spend the night before the flight. Without that info your question is too broad to get truly helpful replies.

I didn’t mention any other town
Malpensa is the airport
Linate is the other airport
Stresa is about an hour train ride to Milano Centrale ( train station)

Directions to Milan
Then locate The Last Supper
And locate Milano Centrale
And Milano Cadorna (the train station closer to center of Milan)

What do you plan to do in Domodossola?

Weve deided to stay in Milan and fly out of Linate airport. I chose Wengen because I love Switzerland and the small authentic, rustic mountain villages. We booked a beautiful chalet with Air BnB. I went to Switzerland with my parents in 1983 when I was young and again in 1992 to switzerland and 6 other countries in Europe with my school chorus and we were on a strict schedule most of the time. So now Im taking my husband who has never been out of the country and we can sightsee how we wish. I wanted to take him to Italy too and Domodossola was the closest to where we are staying in Switzerland, then the last supper was an afterthought being close to Domodossola but I didnt consider the trip to Milan Linate airport not as close or reliable on public transportation sowe decided not to stay in Domodossola, Italy
