Sperlonga, Sestri Levante, or Some Place Else?

We are traveling to Italy in June and would like to spend 3 days at a sandy beach. This will be after a week in Rome and before heading to Milan for our flight home. There are three of us (two adults and a 17 yo). We'd like something relaxing, with a lovely beach experience and some nearby exploring/hiking, maybe some shopping. We won't have a car, so we're traveling by train and foot. I narrowed it down to Sperlonga and Sestrie Levante, but I'm not sure either one is right. It sounds like the beaches and water quality in Sestri Levante may not be all that great, and Sperlonga seems maybe a bit too small. IWhat am I not considering here? Is one of these our place, or is there some place else we should be considering? Thank you!!

click lake garda, click beaches.pescheira del garda is lower lake and transportation hub to milan. look for a place here or nearby, they have caneva aquapark in lazise, gardaland amusement park (bring water shoes just in case), some beaches in resort area. do some research. we stayed in bardolino for their annual wine festival late september. it's gorgeous with water & mountain views and just relaxing to enjoy.
depending on time flight back from milan, you can train from here to airport. many restaurants, shops, cafes around and you can look for hotel with pool another area to relax, take a taxi or bus to get around. hope it works out & enjoy. ask questions for good & bad
