Spend the night in Tarquinia or Civitavecchia ?

On my way down to Rome Fiumicino Airport from Cinque Terre, I plan on visiting Tarquinia for an entire day (hence i will arrive in the afternoon at my hotel and start fresh the next day). Then the following morning stop at Cerveteri and in the afternoon head to my hotel at Rome Fiumicino Airport

My dilema is whether I should stay in Tarquinia for both nights, Civitavecchia both nights or Tarquinia the first and Civitavecchia the second. I would prefer a place a little more lively where I can meet people :-). I would love any suggestions.

Thanks Steve for the suggestions :-). I forgot to mention that I will already be in Rome for 5 days at the beginning of my trip so I would prefer something different. I leave at 6 am for my flight out from FCO so I settled for a close hotel.Once again thank you!

I would spend the first night in Tarquinia (Hotel San Marco, across the street from the Museo Archeologico), and the second night at FCO.

Alternatively, spend the second night in Cerveteri (so long as you have enough time to make your plane the next morning, giving yourself no less than 3 full hours for check-in and security).

Jennifer, You also might want to check out Porto San Steffano, on a small "island" connected by bridge.(Look for Orbetello) It is just north of Civitavecchia. We spent two nights there and had a great time! Our hotel had it's own beach.

It is a small fishing village and Coast Guard headquarters. We had a great time when the fishermen came back in the afternoon. All the village ladies, and the restaurants came shopping for fish right off the boat. We had some very good meals there!
