Will be going to venice for 2 or 3 days in june 08. wondering if It would be cheaper to spend the nights in treviso or other nearby place and train or bus to venice each morning. Is this an economical idea?
I think it would probably be less expensive to not stay in Venice, but I think once you arrive in Venice you would wish you were staying overnight. It is a magical city at night and a visit to Venice should be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. I would scrimp in other places so you could stay two nights in Venice. Our family of six, with four teenagers, stayed two nights at the Foresteria Valdese Hostel for around 22E a piece (we had a family room for 138E a night) - breakfast was included. Our room overlooked the canal and our teens would sit on the window ledge at night and watch the gondoliers float past. Maybe two nights in Venice could be your splurge of the trip. Enjoy!
Probably would be cheaper out of Venice but I think you would definately wish you had stayed in Venice. It really is magical. Try trip advisor and/or venere to find reasonably priced accomodation. I'm sure you'll find something within your budget.
thanks for the help everybody. From what you've all said, we probably will stay in venice.
