Spello (not Speleto) in Umbria, anyone visit this small town?

I have two weeks left in my two month journey of Tuscany. I have just loved the small town adventures. Spello is on my radar, anyone been there?

Yes. It's good and small, but very quaint.
Don't miss it if you are around there. It's just a few minutes past Assisi, and not as crowded with tourists.

Well, past Assisi or before Assisi, depending on the direction. Be advised that like many towns in Italy, the streets and lanes of Spello are very steeply pitched. But it is beautiful.

not a problem, I've climbed Cortona twice .. that's why they are called "hill towns" :-)

Jim. I would strongly recommend walking from Spello to Collepino and return on the Aquaduct trail. Have lunch in Collepino at Taverna San Silvestro. I wrote a review of this restaurant on Tripadvisor back in April. Look it up as I included detailed instructions on the walk. Alternatively, the tourist office in Spello can give directions.

You could have an Umbrian hill town day, visiting Spello, Montefalco and Bevagna. They're very close to each other and all charming.

ever just pulled over in a no name village, spotted a little restaurant, and just enjoyed the people? English not needed, hand gestures work just fine. This is my favorite experience of Italy.

There is a small tourist office just off the main street running up the hill. In Piazza Matteotti.

We had this sort of experience in Spello when I was just starting to learn Italian. Try Osteria DaDa on the main drag. They'll tell you what they have to eat that day.

Spello is one of the few hill towns with the railway station not some kilometers away.
Nearby Foligno is also well worth a few hours.

Look at the Roman mosaics just outside the town center. Fabulous. Also Todi is a great little city.
