Speeding ticket in Italy

My husband and I were traveling in Italy and we got a speeding ticket. We didn't find out until recently that we got one. We are returning to Italy in October. I am wondering if anyone has any information about the best way to handle this. Any information would be appreciated. How do we pay it, how to find out how much it is? Or do we just ignore it? Thank you.

If the notification is from the car rental agency, wait until you get the actual citation from the municipality. It should tell you where you were speeding, the amount, and how to pay it. If you’re lucky, the municipality won’t send it, and you’re good to go. If Italy is like Spain, you’ll need the citation number, hence, the need to wait for the actual citation.

Did you receive a registered letter in your name from Italy? Did you find a fine on your windshield?

If none of the above things has actually happened, you haven't received any fine and you can't pay it.
