specific apartments for Rome

I've been looking for apartments for staying in Rome this winter for about 1 week. There will be 4 of us-- me, my wife, my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law. I've been looking on cross-pollinate but there are so many to choose from I'm wondering if any one has any specific address recommendations. Which apartment did you stay in?

I'm interested in location above all, and something relatively cheap. We will be doing the usual Rome tourist things as my in-laws haven't been there before and I've only been there once. We stayed at Hotel Smeraldo last time which I thought was a great location and a good choice.

We stayed last week at Le Rose di Bl, great location at 68 euro a day. I booked them thru cross-pollinate. No kitchen, not sure what you mean by apartment. Check them out on tripadvisor. For a week in winter, you may get better rate by contacting them directly.

Mitch, we stayed at the 'Bernini' apartment in Via Panisperna, booked through www.romanhomes.com
Two bedrooms - the larger (and it is large)one with a queen size bed, the other with two singles. Two bathrooms, kitchen, washing machine!!!! large living area and large vestibule. It has a large outdoor space with tables/chairs, and a lovely rooftop area. Excellent location. Being a residential area, the Monti district has the shopping facilities you would need.

We were there in May and stayed in an apartment off of Campo de Fiori which is within walking distance to Patheon, Trevi, etc. We booked it directly through Helen Yeh (www.comfortitalia.com). Helen is english speaking and lives in the building. We stayed in the Farnese II but there was only 3 of us. She has other apartments available. We found it to be a great location and the apartment was very clean and spacious. We would rent from Helen again in the future. Good luck
