Special exhibitions at museums?

There are so many museums in Italy that it can be difficult to learn about all special exhibitions that may be of interest. Does anyone know of a website or publication that pulls together info about museum special exhibitions? I am particularly interested in Rome and Florence. Thanks

It's not just Italy , but all over Europe , indeed even here in the States ! A quick example - earlier this fall , I happened on a stunning painting in the Rijksmuseum by a little known Renaissance painter , Carlo Crivelli . I was transfixed , and stood in front of it for a half hour . Upon returning home , and reading the current arts news here in NYC and New England , I found a retrospective of twenty six of his paintings in a special show at the Gardner Museum in Boston , and am headed there this weekend . Virtually every museum in Europe does this , and the special shows are equally important as the permanent collections . The " Splendour and Misery " at the Orsay this past November was jaw dropping . Just keep your eye out for any museum you attend , I don't know of any compilation though . http://www.gardnermuseum.org/home , http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/events/exhibitions/in-the-musee-dorsay/exhibitions-in-the-musee-dorsay/article/splendeurs-et-miseres-42671.html?tx_ttnews%5BbackPid%5D=254&cHash=b5973a8b6d

I haven't found any one website or publication. About a month or two before a trip, I go to the websites of the museums that I'm planning on visiting to see if they have any special exhibitions. We've had some great experiences this way. The last time we visited Rome, however, on the sides of buses, I noticed ads for a Vermeer exhibit. It was at a venue that I didn't have on my list, but we made time to go there, and really enjoyed that.

Even living here we do not fnd out about all of the special exhibits in a very orderly fashion. Bus ads, billboards, banners on the museums are normal adverts, but that does not help you. Try the websites In Rome Now and Buzz in Rome. Sign up for their newsletters.

Firenze must have some city cutlural site that does the same thing.

Visited the Gardner Museum in Boston a few years ago and it is wonderful. We spent hours there that day and the house is an amazing jewel of it's own.
