My husband and I are planning a trip to Southern Italy and Sicily in May. Is Sicily transit friendly? We like to take trains and buses. Also, has anyone taken the boat from Naples to Palermo? Has anyone taken the Walk of the Gods near Positano, do you have to hire a guide or are there maps like in the Cinque Terre. Thanks
I can reply to one of your questions. We took the over night ferry from Palermo to Naples (just opposite of your trip)
I'd recommend it as a good way to get from the mainland to Sicily, or you could fly from Rome to Palermo on Air One.
Flying will certainly be faster and about the same $$. We flew from Rome to Palermo, then took the overnight ferry from Palermo to Naples, then a fast ferry from Naples to Sorrento for our trip.
The over night ferry has no frills. There were 2 restaurants on board, but nothing else to do. Bring a good book!
We did a bike trip so didn't experience any other means of transport on the island, but I can recommend it as a wonderful way to travel.
