Southern Italy

Feeling nervous I tweaked my knee in March, walking in a park.

Long story short they injected my knee today, to help with recover. I sure hope this works as our trip is this fall, if it doesn’t help we will need to cancel the trip in July, and reschedule next year I guess 😢

Surgeon doesn’t think I will need to cancel , assured me this shot will help in 3-7 days!

hey nancy
i feel for you. that happened to me two weeks before our friends trip to amsterdam and florence in 2016. my doctor here gave me a prescription for pain pills to cover me for 3 weeks. had a rough time walking up hills, stairs and cobblestones. it was slow going, told my friends go do what you guys want and i did a few things on my own. saw a sports medicine doctor in florence, wanting me for physical therapy. whoa i survived till i got back to states and had 3 injections of a gel solution in my knee every week for three weeks. cortisone didn't help. you should be okay since you have 3 to 4 months before your trip. if need be have your doctor at least get a prescription filled here in the states, so you can at least be comfortable. keep your bottle with name and make copy of prescription, things were so different there. i hope it all goes good for you, and make sure you have trip insurance coverage. good luck and let us know how you do.

Due to knee pain, I got a cortisone shot about a week before my trip this March. It did take several days to feel better after the shot, but I then did well on the trip. Sure hope your shot works!

Don't lose hope! I had a shot in the knee, didn't help, went back a couple weeks later and got a second one, pain was GONE.

UPDATE Well feeling pretty optimistic about the knee,
I had a steroid injection which helped alot but not completely! I actually am at the level I was before, except I experience some pain on stairs.

My orthopedic DR has now decided to do viscosupplements injections, waiting for insurance approval so I think I will be good to go in Sept.

Thanks again for all your suggestions, it helped me get help sooner then continue to control it with Advil

Have you asked your doctor about physical therapy?

In early 2016 I sprained my knee. The MRI showed enough damage that my surgeon suggested shots, and said I’m a candidate for knee replacement. I asked if I could try physical therapy first and he ok’d it. After several weeks of PT — plus instructions on how to use strength tape — I was able to travel 3 months later and the knee is still fine now. I know all knees and injuries are different, but I have had really good luck with PT and love the fact that it’s non-invasive.

Yes, I have been doing physical therapy😊. I actually work for a physical therapy clinic!

However, it’s not responding rapidly to PT, because it seems I maybe have one spot in my knee, which is close to bone on bone after I twisted it in March. It’s considered a fracture

I am doing quad strengthing exercises, I too would like to stay away from invasive, if I didn’t have a deadline I need the knee to improve by I think strength and PT has done a lot. I have not tried ktaping my knee thou thanks for the suggestion I will ask if they think it could help

I basically caused a arthritis flare-up with the injury
