Southern Italy- 2 weeks without a car

We are planning a 2 week trip for this October, flying in and out of Rome. We plan to spend 1-2 nights in Rome, then head south. Right now we are thinking of Naples, Sorrento and Amalfi Coast. Is there anywhere else you recommend? We prefer smaller, scenic towns. We will have 10 travel nights, after Rome, without a car. Thank you!

You can easily pass 10 nights in the area without a car. You will probably need one night in Rome at the end before your flight, so plan for 9 nights maybe? Spend time in Sorrento as a base for day trips to Napoli, Pompeii, Ercolano, the islands. We thought Rick Steves’ self-guided walk thru Napoli was a great day.

Also have a base south along the Amalfi Coast. Ravello, Praiano, Vetri, and Positano are good choices. Pick only one and use it as your second base.

Laurel, Thank you for your recommendations. Sounds like there will be no trouble filling our days.

Becky,
We spent 7 nights in Sorrento one December and were never bored. I highly recommend taking in the villas ar Ravello one day. Rick Steves' Italy guide has tons of advice on the area.

FYI, we were whlemd by Paestum. That will be heresy to some on this forum, but it is a long day trip so if that entices you, be certain Greek temples will give you a thrill as there is not much esle to recommend the town.
