South of Italy

Hello
We have set our dates for our trip! Sept 27 to Oct 15
We will be landing in Rome on Sept 28 and departing from Rome on Oct 15. WE are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids ages 14 and 16)
Thinking of a private transfer from Rome to Amalfi Coast. Where should we stay as a base? (Naples, Sorrento, Salerno) to be able to visit other places... I dont want to move around too much so I rather have a base and travel from there.
We take a cruise on Oct 4th from Civitavecchia to Oct 11th. We will visit some of Greece and Turkey on the cruise.

The remainder of our trip will be in Rome (Oct 11th to the 15th) where we would like to see the Vatican city. WE have been to the north of Italy briefly and visited Capri on a cruise a couple years ago and really fell in love with the beauty around it.

WE like small quaint cities where we can walk everywhere. Good restaurants and overall were pretty easy going.

What are your thoughts on the itinerary from Rome to the south? Any suggestions?

Also can you recommend a private company that can take us from Rome to the south and then from the south to Civitavecchia.

Thank you in advance.

We asked Aldo Limos last May, 2023, when we were in the Sorrento/Amalfi/ Naples area. Christina in the office is a Brit, so email communication was quick and easy. She gave us a package deal ( expensive in that area due to the congestion), but accepted USD, at a fair rate, and gave us a written receipt. The drivers were very professional and had great English.

Your questions come up several times a week here on the Forum. I'll do a Search as very helpful info has already been posted and should be useful.

I assume you are aware of the congestion south of Naples, the lack of infrastructure, and that there is no quick nor efficient way to get anywhere. That being said, the area is beautiful, and I hope you have a great trip !

Our base several years ago was Sorrento, or actually, Piano di Sorrento, right next door. While neither are technically on the Amalfi Coast, the Sorrento area is a great base for reaching it, as well as Naples, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. You could even easily visit Capri again.
