Chani,
It's great to hear that you've now embarked on your trip. Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions to offer regarding the rain.
Hope you have a wonderful time despite the weather!
The crypts in Palermo are cool to visit. It's not something you'll spend a terribly long time doing, but worth it to see and get out of the rain! They're a little outside town so it's easy to walk but I don't think you would have a problem finding parking if you drove.
When it poured rain the day that we were planning to visit Zingaro, we instead visited Erice. Not a perfect choice in the rain, but better than hiking through the mud.
I will see if driving to the crypts is difficult I do like the idea. Then Erice and/or Trapani, I guess. Unless there's anyone else with ideas.
Yes, I'm enjoying Sicily a lot. 2 days in Palermo which I kept thinking of as a poor mans Rome. I was impressed by Monreale and spent a very enjoyable hour or more at the Ballaro market.
Now I'm in Cefalu for 2 nights (1 day) and really like this charming town which has introduced me to what I have dubbed a gelatoburger. It's a typically over-generous serving of gelato on a brioche ( at least that's what they call it but it wouldn't be allowed to cross the border under that designation) it looks exactly like a cheap hamburger bun.
Erice streets are slippery when wet, be careful. Have you been to the Capella Palatina in Palermo? I would visit Segesta in the rain, pick up a cheap poncho and off you go!
Or, Chani, you could just get wet, and sing.
"Singing in the rain..."
Enjoy, wet or dry, and send along some good tips to those who will follow in your footsteps, as in next week.
Larry
I should add that we also visited Segesta in the rain, so don't skip that.
Hardly rained at all, but my bum knee is complaining something fierce. So I skipped Zingaro but I did go to Segesta (where it drizzled). Blankets of wild flowers, green hills, azure to deep blue seas, picture-postcard-perfect along the coast.
I have stopped looking at weather forecasts. None has been accurate in the 5 days I've been here. Only 9 more, sigh.
Get to a farmacia for something to help with knee pain!
